What is Boudoir Photography & why would I want do a shoot for myself?
Boudoir is a truly empowering experience. For some women it allows them to see their own beauty from a different perspective, and to build their self-esteem and confidence. For others it is the chance to celebrate their bodies at a particular time in their lives... be it pregnancy, upcoming wedding, changes in your body or just deciding that you will love yourself as you are.
How to choose the right photographer?
This is one of the most important elements of doing a boudoir shoot.
Firstly, when looking for a photographer it is really important that you look at their portfolio. You want to be sure that your photographer can show a consistent style, beautiful lighting and posing and being able to work with women of all shapes, size, ages and even abilities.
Secondly, read their website and some of their social media posts to ensure that they carry the same views, and their message speaks to you. Don't forget to read their reviews too.
And lastly, have a chat with them either on the phone or face to face. This will give you a bit more of a sense of who they are and how they work as a photographer.
You are putting your self confidence and body image in their hands. You want to know that they will honour that image and listen to you along the way.
What is the best location for my shoot?
This will sometimes depend on the photographer and also on your comfort level. At Studio On 5th, we offer a Studio Experience, In-Home Sessions and On Location sessions.
Studio sessions are styled beautifully. The setting, lighting and temperatures are all optimal and you don't need to worry about a thing. The studio is in a private location......
In-Home Session are the opportunity to relax and enjoy the experience within the comfort and privacy of your own space.
On Location Session can be beautiful if you would like to do a beach session, or something in nature. These can be a beautiful experience as you get to take in the world around you as we shoot.
Hair and Make Up
While adding the Hair & Make Up Package is optional with Studio On 5th, I do urge clients to add it to enhance their experience.
It allows you to be pampered on the day of your session and gives you a chance to feel comfortable in the studio space before we start to shoot.
I have hand picked my amazing team of hair and make up artists to work with you. They specialise in highlighting your features (it's not about making you unrecognizable) and making you feel amazing.
A great option is to bring some photo inspiration of the looks that you would like to achieve for your session.
Posing & facial expressions
This one is super important!!
You don't need to know how to pose for your session. A great photographer will be able to talk you through posing, and pose you throughout your session, the same will go for your facial expressions.
I personally have spent years studying posing and prompting facial expressions from clients to achieve beautiful results.
Outfits
Most clients bring their own outfits to their shoot. This way they will be a perfect fit for their shape, and will work well with their skin and hair tones.
I do have a small client closet available for clients, which includes bodysuits, t shirts, robes, body jewelry and accessories. These are often used to add another look to your gallery on the day.
(clients are given a nude g'string to be worn under any bodysuit for hygienic purposes. Bodysuits are washed after each use)
Nudity is a matter of choice and your comfort level so it is completely up to you.
Some women come in not wanting to do any bare breasted or nude photos, and then will gain confidence during the shoot and end up doing them, there is never any pressure from me. I will always be led by your choices.
Product
There is something so empowering about seeing your photos in print.
Being the type of photography that boudoir is, most women purchase an album for their photos because it is a little bit more discreet. That being said, many women also choose a beautiful piece of Wall Art to display in their homes. This serves as a daily reminder of how they felt during and after their session.
